We just bought a used 2017 Highlander LE Plus over the weekend and noticed a chip in the windshield during the second time driving the vehicle. The chip had started to crack the windshield. I let our sales guy (Brennan- nice guy/good salesman) know that it was there and he said his managers response was that if there was a crack they would have REPLACED the windshield almost as if they are saying it was our fault or something that happened once we took possession of the vehicle! That was incorrect because if you look closely at the crack, you can see where they had just filled it with an acrylic (sloppily I might add) so that they could slap it on the lot as quick as possible. I understand when you buy a used car, that not everything is in its new state but because the salesmen are telling people that they replace things that need replacing before putting it out on the lot, it is assumed that they are at least a little concerned about the condition they sell their cars in. Don t let that sweet talk fool you if you go to buy a vehicle from them.
This is a SAFETY issue because repairing a crack in the windshield is ONLY acceptable if the chip hasn t started to spread or if it is done within 1week of the chip occurring. In the event of an accident, the force (even a very minor fender bender-due to windshield s condition), will cause the windshield to shatter. If they are not willing to correct this and make this right, I could very easily assume that Jim Norton would be taking full responsibility for any injuries this causes when the windshield shatters into the car. I have tried to be in contact but once they told me they weren t going to do anything and that it was basically our responsibility and our fault, they stopped responding even after I sent a close up of the damage and the short cut filling (NOT REPLACING like the salesmen say) the service guys took to get the car on the lot. I will now be thinking very carefully before I recommend them to anyone. My family and I have spent over $275k buying cars from them and countless dollars with service and maintenance on vehicles over the years and I will seriously consider before purchasing a vehicle from them again. Jim Norton needs to make this right!
