Melissa BSN, RN is the definition of phenomenal. She is, for sure, the woman of the night and deserves some recognition. When I first walked in here, gasping for breath and unable to catch it, I was honestly ready to leave. The moment the staff found out I suffered from a mental disability--even on the most minor of scales--, it became everyone's sole focus, and seemed to almost dictate their reactions and treatment. I felt singled-out and like every diagnosis from there on out would come right back around to my mental illness. However, it didn't touch her. She made sure that I wasn't treated any differently, and even stayed in the room with me for as long as possible in between her treks to retrieve supplies, ensuring that I didn't experience any more discomforts, and acting as my liaison of sorts. She reassured me that she, herself, was a mental illness advocate, and that she would never let me be treated any differently because of my prior diagnoses. She ended up being this night's saving-grace, turning a stressful and disconcerting situation into one of ease and reassurance. If I could solely rate employees, she would, for sure, receive a five-star rating, no question about it. She is the reason I'm leaving this hospital with the treatment I needed, and I honestly could probably never thank her enough.
