Really didn't want to write this but they left me ...

Really didn't want to write this but they left me no choice. I've used Taylor Made several times and never had an issue until now, and they've done everything they can to NOT fix the issue. I stayed at Runnin Down A Dream for a weekend recently and the first night the carbon monoxide detectors went off several times. Taylor Made seems to have some overnight, after hours service they pay for that told me they could have someone come look at it the next day. As we still didn't feel safe, we called the fire department. They were furious but seemingly unsurprised that we weren't told to evacuate. They didn't have high opinions of this company. They found greatly elevated levels of carbon monoxide, so they turned off the gas and propane. We stayed in a freezing cold house with two electric heaters. The next morning around 9:30 I had to call them (was this not flagged as an emergency?) and tell them the situation. The owner showed up first - he was very nice, and the ONLY person who apologized to us from the outset. A man from Taylor Made came and said "what else can I do for you?" I explained that we could use more heaters but we kept tripping the breakers, so that wasn't really possible. He left. A man from an HVAC company came out to look at things; he determined that too much gas was coming in because of how the logs were arranged on the fire. So he rearranged them and turned the gas back on. You can understand that I didn't trust that, so we didn't touch the fireplace any more.

I didn't hear an apology from Taylor Made until I informed them that they hadn't apologized. They did not care about us after they got our money. There was a lot of "we said sorry, what else do you want" attitude coming from them. So they offered a 75 dollar refund. On an 800 dollar reservation. Not only that, but it came with over a page of requirements to keep our mouths shut and sign away all ability to hold the company responsible. Let that sink in for a minute. We were exposed to carbon monoxide, not apologized to, kept waiting, and they thought 75 dollars would keep us from sticking up for ourselves.

So they upped the amount to 100 dollars. That's when I knew I was going to say no. How insulting. I asked my friend who stayed with me if it was OK to turn down the money in exchange for the ability to write this review, because we're both not rich and really could use the money. But the principle of the situation won out.

This was a horrible experience. We save up for these trips, and this one was a complete bust. They're going to reply to this and hint that we were unreasonable (we were not) or that they were plenty responsive (they were not) or that they tried to rectify the situation (with 75 dollars?). They made me feel like asking for a deserved refund was outrageous.

I don't ask a lot of these realty companies, I just want a house in decent shape so we can relax. We didn't get that. I don't call every day with a new complaint or demand they do anything outrageous. My friend and I are very easy going, so trust me when I say they get their money's worth from us. Not anymore. I think we've stayed with them six times or so, but they treated us like nothing. Almost every person I talked to or emailed with seemed shocked that a lukewarm apology and tiny refund wasn't sufficient. What a shame. They have a large number of houses for rent so it'll be hard to avoid them next time, but believe me, we will.
