Let s get the good stuff out of the way first. This is the best taco joint in Vancouver, no exceptions. The crispy chicken is unbelievably good, every other taco is fantastic, and there s no overwhelming toppings or flavours accompanying the featured meat of whichever taco you get. You can t go wrong with anything on the taco menu. (Remember, taco menu. The ceviche is a disappointing two spoon portion, and the ceasar salad is ridiculous and resembles nothing like a Caesar...pomegranate seeds? Kale? Really?)

However, there are a couple of things that I can t seem to get over. Every time I decide to eat in gastown I somehow end up at Tacofino (for the above mentioned taco reasons) but every time I am reminded at how terrible the tortilla chips are, and how loud the place is in the evenings. Every time I visit it seems like the chips are stale, undercooked, or in some way imperfect. This isn t really excusable in a Mexican restaurant. Tortilla chips aren t exactly hard to make or keep fresh. You folks need to up your chip game, because I m consistently disappointed when I order any of the fantastic dips that come with the tortillas...please please do something about this....and do something about the music. This is a great place to converse, somewhere that s social and also intimate, so turn down the music and do something to reduce the echo. It s really tough to have a conversation over everyone else yelling over the music. Don t worry, we ll still have a good time!

One star off for each of those issues. I ll keep coming back, of course....But I want this place to be even better.
