The hotel is generally great -- nice location, beautiful rooms. The Atoll restaurant was pricey but everything was wonderful and the service was great. Here's what wasn't so great, why I won't be back, and why I'd recommend others stay away.
1) Arrived at 3:30 p.m. and one of two reserved rooms was available. Was told we'd be called when room was ready. Having never been called, having seen housekeepers had left the floor, and seeing as it was a half hour after check-in time, I returned at 4:30. I was told the room still wasn't ready. I pointed out that they'd failed to honor the reservation. Clerk apologized and offered a $25 credit for the lounge. We ate instead at the restaurant (figuring a credit is a credit).
2) After finishing dinner at 6:30, still hadn't been called about the room being available. Went back to the front desk a third time. Was told room was ready and got the keys.
3) Noticed later emergency door at base of tower, the largest building was propped open, a clear safety and security issue.
4) At chekout, I realized the credit hadn't been given and that I'd been charged for two cars when I only had one. Had to argue those points at checkout, albeit successfully.
Bottom line, there's no reason for a hotel with a 4 p.m. check in time not to have all reserved rooms ready at 4 p.m. This is just a matter of poor management, but more likely trying to save money on staff. California has an 8.5% unemployment rate I believe. Hire some more housekeepers. It's all part of a general philosophy of nickel and diming guests on quality and charges, and I won't put up with it.
