Joonbug s NYC NYE Party at the AMC Megaplex was a major disappointment. I would not recommend this event as they do not care about the NYE experience.
1. They had no coordinated midnight celebration, they didn t announce that NYE was approaching resulting in a lot of people being unprepared (no time to grab noise makers) or outright missing the ball drop , and they didn t do a count down (fortunately someone in the crowd started a countdown and we were able to hear it from 3)
2. All of the movies they were showing ended after midnight and they didn t pause the movie to permit celebrating NYE, so we missed the end of the movie that we were watching.
3. All movies started before we could get into the party, so either you joined a movie late or waited for the next movie to start (but as we discovered, the next movie played past midnight).
4. They ran out of food at 9:30PM, but food was supposed to be served until 11:30PM.
5. They played some of the movies with all the lights on!!
6. Premium alcohol, but not premium bartenders or drinks. They ONLY made well drinks (rum and coke, 7 and 7, vodka and orange juice) and each trip to get a drink was a 20 minute wait as the bartenders were taking their time. Only cheap beers were available.
7. Music was just ok, I enjoy what was suppose to be played (EDM, Pop, Top 40), but much of what the DJ was playing was old and or outside these genres.
8. Doors opened at 7PM, but it was impossible to get in at that time.
9. Two blockbuster movies were playing on floors we were not allowed on.
10. Coat check was $5 per item and was strictly enforced (jacket + hat + umbrella).
11. Could not have a conversation with others at our table due to a gigantic speaker literally next to our table in the VIP seating area.
12. Elevators were broken, so we needed to take multiple escalators that were not located next to each other requiring traversing the building.
13. Icing on the cake - they turned off the escalators before the party ended resulting in walking down five huge flights of stairs (movie theatre floors are bigger than regular floors)
Spent a large part of the night waiting in lines. First it was delays created by the police (the security implications are understood, but they were not checking every ticket or bag. The crowd was upset and very pushy due to multiple police stop points and several bottlenecks). Then it was delays created by the venue: 30 minute line to get checked in - the people checking us in were not trained (the person assisting us, did not know which wrist band to give us, so we waited while they asked for manager assistance). 20 minute line for buffet style food, 20 minute line for well drinks.
We attended an NYC Times Square party in 2016 and had an amazing experience. But, this years party was completely disappointing, all thanks to Joonbug.
Joonbug exploited our holiday and did not deliver a fun experience (they hide behind policies that state everything is subject to change enabling them to not deliver and then get away with it).
Avoid unless you are ok with lines, well drinks, and incomplete movies.
It is no wonder that they have a strict no refund policy, otherwise I imagine they would go out of business due to horrible service.
