Review of McLeod Health

Unfortunately I have first hand experience of the ...

Unfortunately I have first hand experience of the healthcare or lack thereof, which is provided by the doctors and nurses at McLeod in Florence, SC. I have had various elderly relatives admitted on a monthly basis at McLeod in Florence, SC throughout this past year. I must say that the blatant lack of empathy, human kindness or compassion displayed by doctors, nurses and especially the "tech's" is truly a cause for alarm. The people of this community desire so much more than the completely uncaring, disregarding and outright disrespectful employees of McLeod. From the Emergency Room to the various hospital floors especially 8th floor and now we have also experienced the staff on the 3rd floor. The hospital doctors are there only to cover this facility to satisfy Insurance policy. These doctor have no regard for the well being of the patients or any human or moral respect for family members. Nurses follow the same path and techs might as well be non-existent because the majority of them are simply there to collect their pay checks. These "professionals" tend to forget that they too are human and so are those whom they love and care about. Mcleod needs to provide professional development training to their entire employee population on the meaning of customer service, human compassion and empathy for those suffering from illness and sickness. The entire staff is completely unkind, non-caring and many times, down right criminally incompetent. Hospital doctors fail to communicate with each other, the nurses and/or especially the patients and their families. Nurses don't want to be bothered and clearly do not have the expertise to dispense medications in a professional manner. And when the patient and/or family members have questions they become quickly annoid and rude. The techs on the other hand should not even bother to clock in. They consistently ignore requests from patients for changing, ADL's, or assistance to the bathroom. Patients go unwashed, soiled and lay in dirty bed linen for days and most times have to repeatedly beg staff for assistance. The floor are filthy, trash cans overflowing with soiled chucks which are left behind in patient rooms in open trash cans by the techs. Nurses come into room and stove pills, IV meds and shots on elderly patients without informing them of which meds are being given. When questioned they ignore patients or become rude. Hospital doctors are so busy trying to adhere to insurance company and hospital policies until they fail to act on behalf in the best interest of patients and the best care needed by each individual. Animals in slaughter houses receive better care than the patients at Mcleod on any given day of the week. This hospital needs to retrain ALL staff in ethics, human morality and holistic care for all patients. Patients should not be treated "routinely", but "individually" according to their healthcare needs. To add injury to insult they then have the nerve to charge insurance companies hundreds and thousands of dollars for subpar and often misdiagnosed treatments. There is NO CARE for the patients in this community. There is access, but NO access to quality healthcare for the people who are served by this facility. Word of advice to administration, retrain your staff and vet in your hiring practices.
