I attended this clinic for the first time Friday evening as my 7 year old siberian husky tried to play with a porcupine for the third time in his life. Fortunately for me the first two times were during the day when there were options to see a non emergency vet. I knew from experience that the cost of anesthesia, removal and follow up would be in the neighbourhood of $4-500 and assumed that given this time around was only about 15 quills (one of particular concern was in the corner of his eye) but taking into account I was at an after hours emergency clinic I would be looking at about 7-800. I was told it would be just shy of 1900 to remove the quills. I am extremely fortunate to know my dog's vet personally as a fellow parent of hockey players and was able to call him on his cell phone to ask for advice in this situation. He suggested meeting him at his clinic and did the procedure WITH the emergency nature of the service for $400. I paid him $600 as I recognized that he provided an option most people would not have and I was extremely fortunate. I write this not to complain about anything that this clinic did as they were very kind, professional and courteous and I had every confidence my husky would have had the best of care in their hands. What I hope is that they recognize the fact that there is fair charge for the above and beyond nature of 24 hour care that they are providing and then there is taking advantage of people and situations. I hope they reflect on the difference.
