Overall - Roadbear is good. Coachman RVs are not. My experience with employees at Roadbear was good. The reservation process was smooth. The people very responsive to all my questions. They allowed me to pick-up our RV a day early when our travel plans changed. Pick-up and walk-through was good. Recommendation: pay SUPER careful attention and actually DO EVERYTHING as they walk-through the RV's systems. Push the buttons, plug things in, take a good 60 minutes to actually try everything. The reason I'm recommending this is because I had issues - not only with the RV but also with the hoses that Roadbear provided. Both the sewer hose and the fresh water hoses were old and worn-out. Roadbear allows you to spend up to $50 on these items however; I had to call-in multiple times to figure-out what to do because we went over the $50 limit. Also, the electrical systems are complicated. Running the generator was very complicated. It didn't work, and then it did work and there are little switches in multiple places. We tried them all according to the manual but also called Roadbear and went through the issues. Of course, at check-in the generator worked fine! The hot-water heater truly broke during our trip. The main module fried itself and needed to be replaced. Also, a lot of screws fell out all over the place in the RV. Drawers fell apart, ladder fell down because the screws attaching it were bad, a light fixture came loose, there was a big separation in the doorway and you can see the road below. Again - most of these items were not Roadbear's fault -- rather the poor quality of the Coachman RVs they rent. This is the second RV we've rented. The previous was a Citation which was much better quality.
During our return process, we complained about each of the items listed here. The Roadbear person then tried to argue with us about each of them. And, when looking at each individual problem, they were small -- the issue was that there were so many problems. It hurt our vacation.
To Roadbear's credit, they refunded us for 2 days of our rental -- but I had to argue and get angry with them. So -- overall, I'd say Roadbear is OK but then again all the other major-named rental places rent-out the Coachman RVs.
Here's my recommendation (for Roadbear or any other major RV rental place)
1. Thoroughly run through EVERY system during check-out. Run and test everything. Try all the buttons. Attach the hoses. EVERYTHING.
2. Be prepared for things to break - and set your expectations that you'll need to do maintenance on your Coachman RV. You can spend $50 for needed items. Expect to spend it! If you expect it to not have issues, you'll be disappointed.
3. If things go wrong, call them and have them mark it on you record. Be prepared - Roadbear expects you to be an "owner" of the vehicle and do research into the issues and potential fixes.
I'd give them 2 stars but made it 3 because they listened and finally credited us for the issues we had.
