Most people who wrote these reviews only did a small part of the park. Try going camping with the whole family with pets and you will get a different view. We went camping there this weekend and will never go back. We arrived Friday evening and by Saturday evening the entire family was ready to go home. Sure the beach is nice, clean, with clear blue green water and the history is always good and if I was a tourist, I would have been fine with that. I am about really enjoying an area with the family. A huge problem was the sites and the campground. You cannot put your camper or popup on the site. You have to park on the street and every person gets to peek into your camper. The sandy sites are full of 'Black Sand'. It is from the ashes of the campfire and is a nasty dirty mess that get on and over everything. Disgusting. Covered by broken wood and glass. I picked my site specifically to keep some privacy, but when we arrived, we noticed that they just finished building an new bath house directly behind my site that was not on any map. Spent two nights blinded by the light and the sound of 8 doors slamming shut. It is the stupidest bathroom every designed. A 10cfm fan is all the ventilation these bathrooms get. Imagine this: It's summertime. You waited 15 minutes to go pee because they closed the older restroom. The person before just took a crap and then a shower and now you walk in. Imaging the stench and humidity levels. A germ factory. After that we spent an hour going over maps, rules and the internet trying to figure out whether there was an area to take the dogs to the beach. Decided that and area just north of the surf fishing area was legal. Packed up the wagon and family and started the 1/2 hour walk to get to the trail head that leads to the beach and after seeing many signs that no pets were allowed in any area or nature walk, they also added a sign at the dunes that no pets were allowed there anymore during the summer. The beach had six people on it. We cannot leave the at the campsite or the car, or walk anywhere except for the highway where people do 50 in a 15mph zone. It is a huge beautiful park that will never live up to its potential and will never see us, unless I want to cough up $160 for a beach permit to go fishing. We left early. That is a record. I have never, in 25 years of camping in various states, left early. It was a 3 hour drive and I was home by noon. It is always dark. We take in the sites for the rest of day after packing up. Not here. I read of some families coming here every year since they were kids. They must have never seen anything except for the public swimming area where I know no pets are allowed.
