I stay at this hotel every few weeks since 2008. In total, it will have been about 300 nights. Actually more. Therefore, I can already report a lot. Unfortunately, the quality of the actually four-star hotel decreased steadily. In some places it was never available.
For starters: The hotel is in a great location, on the beautiful rough Irish coast, you have a great view of the sea and the harbor. From the outside, the Grand also makes something. Anyone who loves the old style will be pleased in the foyer and in the adjoining rooms. Chandelier, old carpet floor, fine stucco etc.
Malahide on the doorstep offers bars countless great restaurants and small shops for shopping.
In the adjoining building there is a gym and a spa area with a long pool, whirlpool and steam bath for free use for hotel guests.
However, that's about it, because the rooms-and I've had some of that desperately in need of refurbishment. Hot piping that burns you, bad internet, silicone seams that meet you, broken tiles, dirty shower trays. Fixed wall-mounted showers that hang so low that taller people must stand stooping under them, torn or moldy shower curtains, clattering ventilation hatches, no toilet brushes, soundproof walls, leaky windows, loudly slamming doors, doors through which you can pass a hand through the gap can, dirty, dusty carpet, in each room different shower functions, often no hot water, TVs with bad signal, outlets do not work. Dirty hair dryer, extremely expensive laundry service
But what really annoys the most is the service. Since 2008, I am a guest in this hotel, with each check in they ask for my address, instead of saving it with the present time. And when I check out again, this is gone again. Then every time the fight to make the bill tax correct (no "breakfast, tax and correct address.") If it was a chain like Hilton or Best Western, you might still be able to accept it because they have their same letterhead around the world Hotel really can not manage me and my colleagues, who also often stay here and we are thus regulars and have thousands of euros are so "save" that this works smoothly.
Another service criticism is the breakfast service. Either you get the wrong thing, or nothing, if you ask the waiter for tea or coffee at breakfast. Previously, you still ordered brown or white toast. Now they have rebuilt the Coast Restaurant, where the morning buffet takes place, and you can even let out coffee at the vending machine and help yourself to the numerous dishes.
They have also rebuilt the main bar, it is now more modern and also offers a small snack counter. Unfortunately, the TVs were removed and you can no longer watch sports broadcasts. Unfortunately.
Unfortunately, this hotel has done a lot wrong for me and is not in the right optimization. But: the only hotel alternative in the area
