Long story short our camper was involved in an accident (not our fault) damage to camper was extensive and we felt that it would be best to contact manufacturer. We were amazed at how fast we actually got the message the camper was done. We hadn t had it the last half of the summer and we missed it not being able to go anywhere (COVID) and feeling safe in our own space. Once we got the call it was such a blessed happy excited feeling and since we have heard/read such great things from everyone online we were expecting greatness. Also when we dropped it off the Service Managers words were it will be better than new . Now how could anyone think the next was going to happen? We drove 9 hours to Indiana in November to go pick up our camper. And we got there after the shop closed and as we asked it was parked on one of their customer sites with the heat turned on. Our first look was shocked. The outside of camper was dirty okay it was cold maybe no cleaning of the body of camper but the mud that was caked on our landing gear in places was an inch deep. And at quick glance we saw the walls were indeed done. The anger/disgust/sadness hit us slowly when we did a walk around.
Our camper was FAR from better than new . The work was not done. Let s start with the outside .while our camper was in their possession they managed to hit the cone of camper on something which took paint off, the sewer pipe holder was not replaced, the tail lights didn t match (we bought an aftermarket one to make the trip safely to Indiana after accident) they put the aftermarket one and the old one back on. The list continues: Freezer door not functioning properly was told the ice bucket was in backwards (still doesn t close properly and have lost food), dinette slide awning topper was not tightened, shower doors no longer function properly and it creeks bad when using it (since the wall replacement), bedroom door and washer closet door don t function properly (staying closed and actually being able to turn the door knob) they lubed the latch on washer closet door to fix the problem but nope that didn t do it. The trim in master bedroom is broke which wasn t prior. The walls in bunk room and master bedroom were unattached and floppy. The screen that was broke during accident wasn t replaced. The drawer in kitchen by fridge was damaged in accident and it still doesn t seem to work well. The dinette slide is rubbing on the floor and I mentioned that and because the black mark was gone I assumed it was addressed but nope and the flooring is rubbed and shiny one spot is close to being ripped. Our reclining chairs that were ripped from floor during accident weren t reattached. Our MorRyde steps were bent/twisted and broken. They replaced them with new steps that were adjusted BUT still rubbing the body on camper (not GD fault). Needless to say we were fuming! The next morning as soon as service opened we were knocking on that door. Valerie couldn t believe it. The service manager apologized stating he was away so he didn t know it wasn t done. Needless to say we had to find something to do with our 2 kids and 2 dogs on a cold November day for over 4 hours. And while they took camper back in to do the missed repairs and somehow our awning arm was damaged. The camper is still in need of repair. Cleanliness of my camper was disgusting. There were muddy foot prints in camper, nothing was cleaned by them. The amount of nails and scraps we have and continue to find is unreal. The putty used to fill in nail holes and staples was on the floor.
On a positive note they did offer to pay for our breakfast that morning and they did allow us to use the showers on property. They also took unit back in quickly that morning to get everything else done. Even though it still isn t complete and it is still far from better than new we were able to take a family trip with it.
UPDATE: We love our Solitude - the problems we have with is NOT Grand Designs fault. We simply stated our experience with the service department.
