My wife was treated at SCCC for stage IV kidney cancer. I would not consider SCCC as one of my choices to treat a love one. An appointment to see a Dr. is never on time. It would take between 3 and 4 hours to see the Dr. or the Dr. assistant. Waiting 3 to 4 hours for a cancer patient is torture, it is inhumane. In our case there was a clinical trial, after that there were no clinical trials. The patient care at the UM hospital is deplorable and they don't communicate with the oncologists at SCCC, although they are part of the same system and physically located across the street. The oncologist could care less that you love one is at UM and UM Drs. behave the same way. additionally, UM hospital is a training ground for the miller school of medicine, you see a lot of students coming through and asking questions but you will never get an answer or a follow up. Trying to get in touch with your Oncologist for any reason is an impossibility. They are the typical latin bureaucrats. Surround yourself with people who don't allow access to the Oncologist and never reply to the patient phone calls or emails. Unfortunately when you see them face to face is the same old latin excuses, they try to tell you what you want to hear, knowing very well they are misleading you. I would not recommend SCCC to anybody. You are better off going to Mount Sinai, The Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist or Cleveland clinic in weston. If you have the financial means go to Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY, MD Anderson in Houston, Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa or Cleveland clinic in Cleveland. Please do your love ones a favor and stay away from the UM/SCCC Health system. If you want deplorable patient Care SCCC and the UM hospital are the right place to go.
