I grew up visiting Horseshoe Bay Resort every summer during the early 90s, and was eager to visit again after many years away. We visited during Labor Day Weekend, and had a fantastic stay despite a very very full resort.

Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and eager to take care of us. The current management has generally done an excellent job maintaining the lavish grounds, most of which were built back in the 70s with a no-expense-spared mentality, while tastefully updating the buildings and amenities as appropriate. Our room in the tower appeared to have been recently remodeled and was beautiful. Excellent housekeeping. Lots to do - golf, tennis, watercraft rental, the Whitewater putting course, and multiple pools. Recommendation - if you're looking for a quieter pool on a busy weekend, check out the one at the Paseo Suites. It was rarely busy, even when the Tower and Yacht Club pools were packed. Also - don't miss the Slick Rock Grill. It's a short drive from the main resort and offers great food and prices.

Only disappointments during our stay:
-In contrast to the high standards to which most of the resort was maintained, the pools disappointed during our stay. The hot tub jets at the Tower Pool weren't working, the Yacht Club pool water was so cloudy I couldn't see my feet, and much of the exquisite lighting in and around the Yacht Club pool and hot tub was out of commission (this sounds like I'm being picky - but the lighting was a particular highlight from my childhood memories and I was disappointed to see it in bad shape).
-Poolside service and food at the Yacht Club disappointed - it took 10 minutes just to get a menu, and the wrap that my wife ordered was so bad that she had to send it back. I'll attribute the service issue to how crowded the resort was during our stay.

Despite these minor issues, we had a great time and hope to re-establish our tradition of annual trips to Horseshoe Bay (hopefully during less-crowded weekends).
