I am supposed to have dental care as a benefit because I am now rated as 100%. However, since I moved here last year from San Diego, California, I have not had a single appointment - only 4 cancelled ones, including 2 requests for emergency extractions. Instead, I had to pull out my own teeth to get pain relief.
Two teeth on the left were so bad that the pain was going up through the sinus cavity and up through the center of my left eye. I also had to pull one on the right side for a similar reason - I was in horrific pain and couldn't get an emergency extraction. What's the point in having this benefit if I'm having to pull my teeth myself? Do you have any idea how painful that is to do? I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!
I just tried calling today, seeing that Google is indicating that the clinic is open. Again, no one is answering the phones. I've tried several times in October, November and December with no luck even getting someone to answer the phone. I desperate need dental care and I should be getting carte blanche treatment due to my rating. What's the deal here?
I also have not received primary care treatment since I've been here. I have been asking to get my left CAM boot and crutch tips replaced since I've been here. I received crutch tips that were half the size I needed six months later. I contacted my primary care to tell them that the crutch tips I received are too small and I still haven't received the proper sized ones.
I was originally told that I literally have to start from square-one with an ortho consultation for maintenance on my CAM boot and right-side AFO and shoes. I have had a standing prescription for these since 2007. My psychologist even said I should not have to start from square-one for this. I still desperate need a replacement CAM boot and the straps on my right brace fixed as well as crutch tips. I have also not had a single in-person primary care appointment since I moved here last year - just one very useless telephone appointment where I was told not to complain about the fact that I had to go through the mental health crisis line to get my EXISTING prescriptions filled.
The only ones who HAVE done anything for me is the mental health department. I do get appointments with them and also social work. They also notified me that I now have a different social worker with whom I have an appointment next month. I think my primary health team could take a page or two from the mental health team's book. At least mental health is working with me.
