Modern and stylish hotel in a beautiful old space,...

Modern and stylish hotel in a beautiful old space, with a few quirks stemming from the conversion layout.

We stayed at Town Hall as a result of a free night that I won from Starwood, and enjoyed it thoroughly. We had a large room on the top floor with stylish mid-century modern decor, a comfortable bed, and a modern glassed-in shower and bathroom. There were some oddities, though: The toilet was fully visible from the room, meaning there were some odd back-turning arrangements when using the facilities. The TV was fixed firmly to the wall facing only a single chair, meaning it was not viewable from the bed or the loveseat. The large bathtub was inside the main room rather than the bath. And the furniture in general felt a bit oddly arranged, but due to the long and narrow profile of the room it was not possible to move anything around.

Despite all this, the room was comfortable and well-appointed, and the rest of the hotel was very nice. There is a well outfitted gym in the basement next to a large indoor pool, the common areas have old but well refurbished woodwork and accents, and the in-house restaurants and bar are all very good (we tried all 3!). The 2nd floor restaurant serving breakfast is a particularly sunny and relaxing place. The staff were friendly and approachable, too.

The neighborhood is still what you would call up-and-coming, but nearby Mother Kelly's and Paradise Garage are great, and it's not far from Victoria Park and transportation via Tube or Overground. Great for a staycation - we may just come back for another.
