The biggest disappointment against Surly is the Pizza Upstairs. We've ordered the Spicoli and I'm Your Daddy pizzas, hopefully we would be able to share them amongst the 5 of us. What surprised us was that the pizza was very thin-crusted, small in size, subpar in ingredients and taste at best, and it costed over $32 for both pizzas. I thought maybe my recent trip to Italy biased my view on this, but my comrades were equally disappointed. This is the worst value in pizza I've ever had in my lifetime.
Due to the disappointment of the pizzas, we ordered additional appetizers. While the Guac for the chips remained fantastic, some of the food has also degraded in quality as well. The Hog Frites was a huge disappointment. There were maybe two forks of shredded pork in the bottom of the bowl, and the rest were filled with cauliflower, peppers, some fries, and carrots to the top to make it look like a big appetizer.
I've been going to Surly's for over many many years, and each time I go, the quality and value seems to diminish. The beers used to be top notch, highly distinguishable, and characteristic in flavor. Good food associated with a good brewery was what got me excited to make the trip in years' past. Unfortunately, the beers are no longer as special nor unique as what it used to be. Perhaps other micro brewers are growing on me. The company's continual sell-out marketing imagery, sub-par food, and over-priced merchandise retail outlet has now given me Surly a sour taste.
