The Kumano Kodo walk through the cedar covered mou...

The Kumano Kodo walk through the cedar covered mountains on the Kii Peninsular is a stunner. Listed as one of two UNESCO World Heritage treks (the Camino de Santiago is the other one) it follows the trails made centuries ago by pilgrims as they paid their respects at the three Grand Shines of Kumano. The serenity of the mountains and the sheer beauty of the landscape makes this a truly spiritual experience. The shrines and temples are stunning and we paid for a private blessing at the Kumano Hongu Taisha (one of the three shrines) which was a beautiful way to end our first full day on the trail. Staying in the comfortable family owned guest houses and soaking in the natural hot springs onsens was the icing on the cake. All the arrangements for accommodation and luggage transfers went without a hitch. Another triumph for World Expeditions.
