Good: The staff was accommodating and attentive, my room was nice. Food in the lounge was good, even in the off-season. Not great: The doors let a lot of hallway noise through. My room smelled of faint cigarette smoke... Maybe because of the fireplace though? Bad: when I checked in there was a sign at the front desk warning guests that a storm was expected and there was no generator. I thought it was funny and even took a picture... It got less funny after midnight when the hotel lost power. I didn't expect everything to immediately be up & running, thanks to the sign. However I had no idea that "no generator" meant no emergency hall lights, no door locks (keycards) and most importantly no lit EXIT signs. The staff did place flashlights and battery lights here and there in the hallways but it was still incredibly dark and no EXIT signs were visible. I couldn't find the stairs to the lobby and when I did the stairways were so dark that it was a definite safety hazard. The staff was doing their best to be helpful (waiting to assist guests in the lobby, handing out flashlights at the desk, actually waving me in from across the street to tell me they'd MacGyvered some hot coffee) but if I'd known that there would be absolutely no emergency lighting I wouldn't have stayed the night.
