I have been seeing Dr Tayebjee, cardiologist, at the LGI for over 6 years and he has performed 3 ablations on my heart over this time after previous complex tricuspid valve surgery, also carried out at the LGI. I just had the 3rd ablation after having 2 months of sleeping downstairs and hardly able to make it to the kitchen (3 steps) before having to stop and rest. It changed my life and I was planning for the worst. After Dr Tayebjee and the brilliant ablation team did their stuff in a few hours on the 3rd ablation, I rested for a few hours in the LGI day ward and was well looked after. I was then asked to try walking a little around the ward by the excellent team of nursing staff. I was apprehensive but found I was much better and didn t need to stop and rest after 3 steps. I then sneaked out of the LGI ward temporarily (not recommended), took the lift down 3 floors and walked quickly up 6 flights of stairs just puffing and panting at the end. It was magic - I m unfit and overweight at 66 years old. Incredible. I thanked Dr Tayebjee on his rounds later that day by shaking his hand non-stop while the other patients in the rest room were smiling. I can t lift heavy stuff for a couple of days but have lots to look forward to getting back to normal. Dr Tayebjee said he can t say how long it will last - the previous one lasted 4 yeas, but said it would have to be a different part of the same chamber of the heart that caused the problem in my grossly enlarged right Atrium and he would do it again. My close family were so happy for me and the next day although sore, I kept getting up and walking around the room in disbelief as to how good I felt. Incredible. A new lease of life in one day. Thank you to all of the staff at the LGI - in one day you ve transformed my life for the better.
