I went into the ER with a laceration across and around the knuckle of my left index finger. They gave me a tetanus shot, injected me with a numbing concoction and applied 6 non-dissolvable stitches to the wound. I was in and out in an hour, if not less. I figured it would run me a few hundred dollars, but my jaw hit the floor when I received the bill - altogether, $3,356.04, only a fraction of which my insurance covered. Is $3,356.04 really the running rate for 6 stitches these days!? That is an astronomically high, ridiculously absurd amount of money for a quick mend. I am going to dispute the living crap out of this, but I fear I will end up paying what they say I owe. My return to this facility will be completely contingent on how this gets handled. If 6 stitches truly costs 3+ grand (that's $560 a stitch, folks), then I will not be returning.
