Before my interview, I was very nervous about the whole process considering the reviews. However, everything went smoothly and quickly. I received my passport with my Italian visa on it within 7 business days after my interview. The people are not warm and very welcoming but that should be expected from government workers. I have witnessed some lady speaking to an applicant very harshly but that was because she was missing half of her documents. What I can tell you is to do your research to make sure you have all of your documents and everything will go well. I was missing one hotel confirmation for my layover in Geneva and they've just asked me to email it to them ASAP. Go on their official website and read their google reviews to find the list of all the documents that you will need. Apply at least a month in advance to reduce your stress, trust me I am speaking from experience.
P.S. my interview date was on DEC 9 and I got my passport back DEC 17
