Thousands upon thousands of Tori gates (the red gates that make this temple pilgrimage site so popular), and even more statues of the Inari Fox god. Get there early to truly appreciate the space. And I mean sunrise early. You ll be alone, with the photographers. If you arrive with the throngs, don t be upset at the first few area with gates, keep walking up and take the paths that deviate front the main path. You ll shake off those hoardes. The summit is not really a destination so don t rush to get to the top. There s no pay off view, those are a little further down.
Each shop/cafe has a different vibe and price! Some are reasonable, some unreasonable.
It s a really wonderful place to meander. Lots of steps, and on a hot day you ll want plenty of water, but there are drink machines and shops all the way up.
The best cafe is called Vermillion and I found it on the way down. Amazing Macha Latte and baguette. All in an outside terrace by the lake.
