Shantelle Dunn Brannon Review of JW Marriott Resort and Spa
My husband and I chose to stay at the JW Marriott ...
My husband and I chose to stay at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We checked in on 8/6 and stayed for 3 nights. Upon arrival, just shy of check in time, we were told our room was not ready. I asked if there was a time in mind on when it would be ready. The front desk associate called housekeeping and informed me the room was indeed ready but not indicated in the system. My husband unloaded our bags onto a cart. {Note: the bell hops no longer do this for you. They no longer assist with bags due to COVID. However, valet is available.} As my husband approaches, the front desk associate tells me he made a mistake, our room was NOT ready. My husband asked a bell hop if we could store our luggage and they said no. That meant, my husband had to unload our bags and place them back in the car. The front desk apologized profusely and told me they would call when our room was ready. We left the hotel to run an errand and returned at 5:30pm. Asked if our room was ready because we did not receive a call and our room was ready! We checked into room 3140. The room was VERY nice. A huge walk out balcony. Huge bathroom with walk in shower and deep bathtub.
There is a sign out front before you enter the hotel that says to wear masks upon entering. I saw so many people that just walked right on in nothing on their faces and they were drinking or eating anything. When checking in, it says to wear a mask when you approach the desk. I saw people not wearing masks and the associates would talk to them as normal. I was very concerned! The day after we checked in, we decided to visit the pool. Well . These folks obviously do not care too much about social distancing. And wearing masks was a courtesy. The water slide omg. Packed full. Lines with people back to back and NO distancing in between. We decided on the adult pool. It filled quickly. We left. The next day, we slept in and decided to visit the pool around 3pm. Well not one chair was open ANY WHERE! It was sooooooooooo packed, we felt uncomfortable and went back to our room. I WAS DISGUSTED! How can the staff allow the pool areas to be as packed as they were?
Let s talk about these restaurants and lounges they advertise
Cibolo Moon: If you need ice, call them. Ice makers were deactivated on each hotel room floor. We got drinks there. It was okay. Except for the kids running around everywhere and the parents taking advantage of the adult time. On average, 1.5 hour wait time for a table. We never ate there.
Tequila Bar: It was barely open.
Crooked Branch: Zzzzzz
High Velocity Sports Bar: Zzzzz
Rivertop Grill: good for drinks and that s about it. It s hardly a restaurant!
18 Oaks: heard from a guest, it s a waste of time and overpriced. We couldn t get reservations and didn t bother trying.
Replenish Spa Bistro: thought this was only for the folks at the spa so we never went.
Starbucks: I will say this was the highlight of the trip. Drinks and food was tasty and on point.
Overall, we will not be returning here. We spent so much money at this hotel for the stay and it was not worth it. It's not safe to stay here during this pandemic.
