My wife had an outpatient procedure and unexpectedly needed to stay for observation overnight. She was admitted around 10 pm that night and was discharged around 1pm the following day (less than 24hrs). When she was admitted I spoke with the nurse about wanting to know how much it might be for this, but she just shrugged it off saying she wasn't in billing, had no idea what anything costs, and provided no additional information. Today I found in my mailbox a bill for over $65,000! That is not a typo, sixty-five THOUSAND dollars!!!!!! This is completely insulting and offensive and should be illegal. I hope it is a big mistake, because I will never pay that much for less than 24hrs of a hospital bed, a nurse to check in occasionally, and some IV solution.
