This is a battle site from the French and Indian wars. George Washington had surveyed the area was made an officer in the British Army for the expidition. Here he cut his teeth at war in a devastating loss that taught him much he would need to know. They chose this rare prairie in the wilderness to set up a timber fort. The location was practically indefensible.
