Michael Neese Review of The Whitehall Hotel

I stayed on the 19th floor with a gorgeous view of the city. The room was beautiful and you could tell that a good amount of money and time are spent making the appearance live up to the hotel's historic label.
Sadly, Chicago drivers use their horns for turn signals. So no amount of sound proofing will save you from the never ending horn blasts throughout the night. Also there are only shear curtains on the window providing a minimum of privacy but letting in an obnoxious level of light through to ensure you have a hard time sleeping.
The elevators are just large enough for two people and a cary-on bag. I realize that there is not much the hotel can do about that since it's a historic building but it does make for a very uncomfortable elevator ride if someone gets on at another floor.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. They even offered to print directions to a local restaurant and bring it to my room. The valet was the most kind and thoughtful person of them all. While waiting for my car we had a nice chat about the city history.
All in all, it was a pleasant stay in a beautiful room with excellent staff. Be prepared for noise and cramped spaces. Also be prepared for substantial holds on your credit card for incidentals. It comes off but for a 2 night stay, I had a $500 hold on my card before I even got the bill.
