On July 15, 2015 my grandson severely injured his knee playing travel baseball at the East Cobb Complex. The on-station trainer thought it best for us to take him to this hospital. We did. My following statement is what happened so help me god. After a short wait in the ER, grandson was called in to an observation room within the ER. Again, a short wait later a nurse came in to hear the story of injury. Shortly thereafter, another person came in to review the story and ordered an XRAY. After about 45 minutes with XRAY complete, the second person returned and told us that the XRAY showed no broken bones and that ligaments and tendons can't be seen on an XRAY. I asked, Why did you order an XRAY then, and she chose not to answer me. Regarding an MRI, this is what I understood her to explain, There isn't an ortho doctor in ER that could order an MRI. She didn't have a name tag on, and I strongly believe that she isn't a doctor. I think she was an NP.We were then given a booklet of information as to what to do and how to care for the patient such as, take Ibuprofen 3 x day for 5 days. If pain persists make an appointment with your doctor. Four to five additional pages included FAQ's with appropriate answers, and additional useless filler type information. As we were being shuffled out the door we asked for crutches and was told NO. It was explained that crutches were only for foot and ankle injuries. Away we went with grandchild at least being carted out in a wheel chair. On July 28, my grandson's knee was successfully repaired by qualified surgeons in Birmingham, AL. He had a ruptured ACL, and a partially torn LCL. I just want to say how terrible this particular case turned out for Children's Healthcare of Atl, Scottish Rite. So folks, I strongly recommend you take your child to another hospital in the event of an accident that requires the ER. By the way our insurance was billed for $ 1350.00 and we just received a separate bill for the XRAY of $ 41.
