Wonderful place to ski (especially if you can avoid the weekend crowds) if you already know how to. But we picked winter park because we heard it was the best place around to teach your kids to ski by yourself.

Not anymore (as of 2017 ski season). Now the easiest runs, magic carpets, and platter lift (which are what made this such a great place to learn to ski in my opinion) are off limits except to paying ski school customers during the day. The price I was quoted for ski school was $189/day/kid. Yikes.

So if you're hoping to teach your own kids to ski, I'd pass on Winter Park, and find a resort that can find a way to keep the mountain friendly to newbie skiers without the extra expense.

If you're hoping to carve your way down the piste and find some powder between the trees - WP might be a great option, give them a try!
