King Khalid International Airport (IATA: RUH, ICAO: OERK) is an international airport located about 35 km from the Saudi capital Riyadh. It is the center of the national air transport system. Designed by the American Office of Architecture Helmut, Obata and Kasaboom, and opened in 1983 to be the world's largest airport in terms of space, with an area of 225 square kilometers, the airport bears the name of Khalid bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, the fourth king of Saudi Arabia.
