I stayed here during a strike in October 2018 for a medical conference. It s often in times of crisis where you can distinguish the great hotels from mediocre ones. This Westin failed miserably during the strike. Look, I understand it s a tough situation for everyone and I was more than patient and gracious despite the long lines because I knew that they were short staffed. The areas that impacted the guests during the strike:
1. No housekeeping services
2. Food and beverage options were very limited in scope and hours and no room service
3. Long lines everywhere due to short staff
4. Contractors brought in (understandably) are not very well oriented
5. Common areas (lobbies, gym) are not as well kept

The major issue I had was the arrogance of the management during this difficult time. Their idea of compensation was 500 points per night, the same that you would get for opting in for their Green Choice program. When discussing some of the above suggestions and asking for a more equitable compensation, the evening front desk manager was downright rude and disrespectful. While I disagreed with him, I was calm and composed, but he just lost it and said I am done answering questions if you can t understand. Maybe he was upset that I called out his lie when he explained the strike was unexpected. Yet I noted that they already had professionally pre-made signs/posters and brought in contractors the morning of the strike. Nobody appreciates being lied to. This level of disrespect and contempt for guests is uncalled for and unwarranted. I empathized with him that the work conditions are challenging but it was not the guest s fault either that the strike is happening, and it is not appropriate to take it out on a guest.
