Barrett Updegraff Review of Double Tree by Hilton Berkeley...

I booked a room at the DoubleTree for a friend's wedding, and my experience was less than satisfactory. When I arrived at 3:45pm, I was informed that my room was not yet ready. Granted that one was on me, I was 15 minutes early to the 4:00pm check-in time. However my room wasn't ready for over an hour past the check-in time (putting me dangerously close to the time the wedding was scheduled to start). I was not the only one to experience this issue, or similar issues, as multiple people/groups who were there to attend the wedding were also made to wait that long, and some didn't even get the type of room they had paid for.
The rooms themselves were pretty average, which for such a high-priced hotel sporting "bay views" (which I'll get to later) I thought was a little disappointing. The only glaring issue with the rooms themselves are the small bathrooms that every room seems to have. There is also the issue of the "bay view" that many people are most likely look for when booking a room. To those people I say "don't bother." There are very few rooms that can be considered to have a "bay view," and most of these simply look out into the marina as opposed to the actual bay.
My last issue with the hotel however occurred in the morning after the wedding, before I checked out. I had been told that there was a breakfast to be had in the restaurant area that was available until 11:00am. What I had not been told however was that the breakfast was not complimentary, and was in fact $30. Now normally I'm OK with paying a little more money for good food, this however was not the case. The breakfast that was served (in a buffet style) was the exact same breakfast I've seen being served at every other hotel I've ever stayed at, and was far from being worth the price. Unfortunately for me I discovered this fact after eating and was of course not happy with the timing of this information.
Overall: I doubt I will be booking a room at this, or any other DoubleTree Hotel, in the future.
