I LOVE Kimpton hotels. I have stayed at Kimptons in many cities. My mom and I have made it a bit of a tradition to stay in a Kimpton for either of our birthdays, so we do this at least once a year, sometimes twice. What we love about Kimptons is that they are all dog-friendly, the evening wine receptions, and the beautiful design that has been put into the building and the rooms.

This specific hotel is in a historic building, which is on the smaller side. We were on the top floor, which is the 3rd floor in this building. However, the design and decor did not disappoint. There is a beautiful courtyard in the center of the building where we enjoyed bringing drinks out. The building is a little maze-like, and getting to the ice machine from our room was a pain.

This time my partner and I came for my birthday, with my mom (who booked the rooms) staying in a separate room next door. She asked Jared at the front desk if they could leave some wine in my room, and we were so excited to find 2 (two!!) bottles of prosecco, along with a sweet note. Thank you, Jared, for making my birthday a real party!

Upon her arrival, my mom asked for non-down pillows for both rooms. Housekeeping removed two of the four pillows and exchanged them for non-down pillows in each room. However, the two remaining pillows were still down. My partner and I arrived later, so I discovered this and called the front desk right away. The guy who answered asked me what I wanted him to do about this. So I asked if we could have two more non-down pillows for our king bed. He said he might be able to find one pillow for us, but that housekeeping was locked up for the night and I would have to ask again tomorrow. Honestly, I think that's crazy. I think a patron should be able to call at 11pm for pillows and get them. The way he spoke to me sounded like he had no hospitality training at all, which is not what I expect when I stay in a Kimpton hotel.

Also, the pillows were standard size, not king. They looked ridiculous on our giant bed. They were very flat, and the beds were super soft and uncomfortable in both rooms, especially having only one small pillow each to rest our heads on. Hate to dump on my favorite hotel chain for pillows, but I've never had this issue before, so it stands out.

We didn't have our room serviced during our stay, but when we checked in, someone's lipgloss was left on the table by the TV. Gross. The bathtub traction was very dirty, and our shower curtain liner was missing also. All things that I wouldn't expect from a Kimpton hotel.

Once sweet highlight was the man serving drinks at the happy hour who refused our tips. That hasn't happened to me before. He suggested we save it for the valet staff, and we did.

I travel a lot, all over the world, so I don't get grossed-out or annoyed too easily, but we choose Kimptons for a reason and shell out for the experience they usually come with. This one was still very nice overall, but a little disappointing based on past experiences.
