Where do we go when we have running nose or other flu/cold symptoms but not having fever or cough during this pandemic? The hospital clinic refuses patients with cold symptoms and send them to the ER with overpriced ER bills. I m currently 28 weeks pregnant. About two months ago I had some runny nose before my regular check and my OB doctor won't see me unless I got checked up by a doctor or physician. So I went to the clinic at AMITA Health St. Alexius Medical Center Hoffman Estates, people there said all patient had cold or flu symptoms had to go to ER, even I didn't have fever or cough, so I had to follow the direction. They only checked me on flu and strep and told me it was just regular cold and sent me home. After two weeks we received a bill showing we have to pay over 700 dollars after insurance adjustment. I called the billing office and a lady told me it shouldn't be such an amount and asked me to wait for them to re-bill. She also asked me to call again if I received the same balance on the next bill. Then the second bill came in with the same balance so I called the billing office again. Another lady answered the phone but just kept saying we have to pay the ER cost. And we ve called the billing center numerous times but still nothing changed. It is very frustrating that our income has already reduced a lot because of the pandemic.
