Mark McKenney Review of Route 44 Hyundai

There is a stark contrast between the service and sales departments here. I rate sales a 5 and service a 1. I have 2 Hyundai vehicles (2019 Tucson and 2015 Sonata). I purchased the Tucson here and the Sonata at a different dealership but brought the Sonata here for service today. It was for a recall service and an oil change. I maintain the vehicle well which has 80k miles on it. The upsell phone calls started first thing this morning. They kept trying to urgently reach me. Finally we connected. They had me needing all kinds of add-ons (over $1500 in total). Two "recommended" services which really showed me what they are all about was a cabin air filter which I had replaced 10k miles ago and is fine and an alignment which I had done 10k miles ago when purchasing new tires. When I challenged them on the cabin air filter, the response was "oh, yeah it looks better than most of them". They backed off the alignment when I said it was done within 10k miles so it obviously wasn't out of alignment. They also wanted to flush the coolant but I've been told elsewhere that this service isn't recommended until 100k miles. Basically, they lost their chance to upsell me something I might actually need by getting greedy. They lost all credibility with the cabin air filter. They also wanted to sell me an air filter for $50 "installed". They evidently figure I don't know how to open the hood and put the $15 air filter in. It literally takes 45 seconds (60 seconds if you're distracted). Too bad I can't go here for service as I like their sales dept.
