If you are looking for a women's organization to support, this is not it.
I was assaulted here by a participant and despite witnesses and police involvement, staff refused to act because they did not see the assault and "don't get paid enough" to deal with abusive participants. I was victim-blamed and bullied by other staff to shut up about their inaction. I had to stop working here while the person who assaulted me got no reprimand whatsoever. My credibility was destroyed and lies were told about me to justify allowing the violence. Sound familiar?
Anyone familiar with women's issues sees the systemic oppression and it is rampant here. Please support a women's organization that stands up to violence against women and does not propagate it. Other organizations could run a drop in centre, which is SO important, if they had the resources while not tolerating violence of any kind.
