UM Sylvester Cancer Center is great if you are being diagnosed and treated for cancer; however, they have a very poor selection of top notch breast reconstruction surgeons. I had a lumpectomy done 12 yrs ago on my left breast and finally decided to have breast reconstruction done. I came out just as bad as I came in. my left breast was never corrected with a lift and the implant is encapsulated. They reduced the right breast and gave it a lift and it is now smaller than the left. I also came out with a long scar underneath the right breast which was unnecessary. When I complained during my post op visit they recognized the errors and said I couldn t get it corrected until 6 months since the surgeon was all booked up. How messed up is that? Make sure that you DO NOT LET AN INTERN DO THE SURGERY, they tell you that this is a teaching facility but they fail to clarify that the intern may do the surgery instead of the actual surgeon, which I think is what happened to me. I am now looking for a top notch breast surgeon to correct this botched surgery and hope that my insurance will still cover the expense. I will be reporting this to the Joint Commisssion.
