Ask yourself if you want a mechanic to fix your car or just replace parts. I recently took my car in for recall work and asked what it would be to fix a few things. 1 being the shifter not down shifting any longer. The diagnosis was a wire failure with a replacement cost of $1771.35. I went to my mechanic (Midnight Motorsports) and they were able to fix the wiring issue for $420. No replacement needed, just a good diagnosis and knowledge to fix the problem vs unnesarily replacing parts and charging a lot of money. To add to it, the cost for replacing the valve cover gasket was twice the price of what my mechanic charged. Pretty simple math to me.
