I did not find anything beneficial with the Alzheimer s Association as my mother battled this disease for several years. There was a complete lack of phone support. There was no one to tell me how to handle this disease and what text SPECT. Never mind doctors who are very dismissive and could care less about the elderly and Alzheimer s but I expected more from the southern California Association. I just battled battled it on my own trying to research as much as I could on the disease and what to expect. But at times I sure wish there was someone I could talk to who could help me along and trying to deal with my mom and what she was going through because I could not understand it. I didn t understand that she was not deliberately try to be difficult but that her mind or what was little left of it could not keep her from acting the way that she did. There were times I would cry at her confrontations with me not knowing this was all part of the disease. I just thought it dealt with memory I had no idea that not only did it kill the brain cells it kill the brain cells that controlled bodily functions. She ultimately died a horrible death from the disease. But again I do expect the Alzheimer s Association to hold my hand but I did not expect either just a bunch of useless literature to be thrown at me.And especially during a pandemic that should ve been my phone support knowing that there were no meetings that I could attend and furthermore how can I even go to meetings when I was her primary caregiver. As a warning to those who are taking care of an Alzheimer s parent please please please research it on your own and start immediately go to google and look everything up on your own because there really is not support out there for you unless you have family and friends who have gone through the disease
