I love to come here. I usually come a few times a week in the spring or fall when it's not so hot.

The track is a 1.82 mile loop with ample room for lots of people walkers, joggers, stroller-pushers, dog-walkers, cyclists, roller-bladers, etc. Foot traffic travels both directions, but if you are coming on a bike, make sure you go counter-clockwise and stay in your lane.

If you get curious about the cute little bridge into the interior of the park, be aware that on the other end of the bridge is a golf course. I didn't notice the signs the first time, and walked across the whole golf course before reaching the HUGE sign at the other side that translates to "you might die if you get hit in the head with a golf ball, and it will be your fault because you didn't pay attention to this giant sign."

Also inside the track is a small body of water, and on the other side, Ochsner Island, aka Bird Island, with thousands of birds in several species. In the springtime, hundreds of ducks line up on the shore trackside, all about a foot apart. It's pretty awesome. There are also times when flocks from other areas take temporary housing and fill up the island even further.

There are at least three rest areas around the track with bathroom, water fountain, and bench, so it's very friendly to all fitness levels. I even attended a Walk for Multiple Sclerosis there. There are also many many trash cans. I'm not sure what the lighting is like at night, but they have a lot of stations along the track where you can call for help if you need it.

The parking is ample with an in-park lot (accessible from Magazine St), street parking to the north and south (on Magazine and on St. Charles), and even more parking in a lot across Magazine St near the zoo/tea garden/pool.

And there are tons of Pokestops here, in case that's your thing. "Squirtles for days," said another visitor.
