King Saud University is an independent Saudi public university located in Riyadh. It was opened on Rabi` al-Thani 14, 1377 AH / November 6, 1957, and is considered the second university established in the Kingdom after Umm Al-Qura University, and that was when King Abdulaziz ordered the establishment of the College of Sharia in Makkah in 1369 AH to become the first university educational institution to be established in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its name was changed to the University of Riyadh during the reign of King Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, and it was renamed King Saud University during the reign of King Khalid bin Abdul Aziz, who saw during his care of one of its closing ceremonies the return of its first name. King Saud University is the second largest university in the world in terms of area, and the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has allocated to this university the equivalent of 1% of the state budget annually.

The beginning of the university s establishment date was three years after the establishment of the first Ministry of Knowledge when King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz (Minister of Education at the time) stated in 1376 AH that the Ministry of Education was seriously considering bringing the Saudi University to implementation, and about a year later the first was established. A university in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the issuance of Royal Decree No. 17 on the twenty-first of Rabi` Al-Akhir in 1377 AH, which stipulated the establishment of King Saud University, and in it:
