I really wanted to love this place but unfortunate...

I really wanted to love this place but unfortunately I was rather disappointed. I think the decor and ambiance was well done to match the theme of the restaurant...war & aviation. However, I m sure it looked a lot better 5-10 years ago. When my dining partner & I first walked in, we both commented on a moldy/musty smell. The carpets and furniture all seemed very outdated which I understand it goes with the theme, but slight updating to get rid of the moldy smell could help. We asked to sit next to the window which was really a beautiful view of the airport next to the restaurant. Our waiter was very kind and attentive the whole time, but unfortunately was the only one on the floor so he was unable to check on us as much near the end.
Now for the food part. I ordered the 3 course meal with mixed greens and the cedar baked salmon. My partner got the chicken dish with mashed potatoes and asparagus.
I noticed the chef making my dish since the open kitchen was right next to our table. I saw him take out my salmon from the oven and it looked very burnt on top. Then I watched him scrape it off as well as the BBQ chipotle sauce that I asked to have on the side. When the fish came to the table, I could immediately tell the top was scraped off. It tasted pretty good despite the fact that I could clearly taste the BBQ sauce. The vegetables were good as well. My partner said her dish was good as well. For dessert we got the apple pie and chocolate cake. We both weren t overly impressed, you could tell they weren t homemade desserts.
Overall, I appreciated the history & decor of the restaurant but I do think there needs to be a few updates to fix the smell & more attention to the food coming out right.
