The updated Gurney's was a downer for us.

The updated Gurney's was a downer for us.
There were three high points: the stellar Italian Restaurant, friendly staff, and the vintage books placed around. Also, they did a good job updating the room terraces.
Everything else seemed geared for flash over comfort.
Our designer bathroom had no towel bars, and no place to hang wet swimsuits. The worst was the shower. It was only partially enclosed, so water flooded out all over the bathroom floor.
It was winter, and our heater was loud. The heater from the room next door blasted like a heavy bass.
Our designer room felt cramped and awkward.
Shelves were crammed with over-priced food for sale. 3/4 of the space in the tiny refrigerator is stuffed with over-priced drinks. $4.00 for a can of coke.
A gross moment in the spa was noticing water dripping from the overhead ventilation into the hot tub.
I'll stop here, and just say that we used to love coming to Gurney's twice a year.
The family resort is gone.
Now, it's a corporate investment.
After this winter, we have no desire to ever go back.
