The food, as always, was impeccable. The service, as always, was calm, knowledgeable. But last night, 14 April, the noise from the over-crowded restaurant was unbearable, all diners trying to make themselves heard over the din; it made any conversation nigh impossible and ruined what could have been exquisite dining. The restaurant is too hard-surfaced -- a design flaw, which is ironic considering that the famous architectural studio of Sir Richard Rogers is just next door (he is the husband of Ruth Rogers, the Cafe's owner). Go weekday evenings, in summer when you can escape to the patio. bertzpoet
