The following comment falls in line with most other comments on this page. They should serve as a cautionary tale, not only about Lewis Tree Service, but about the reckless eminent domain policies of your local power company, some of which allow for unfettered egress onto private property by minimally vetted subcontractors who have no regard for preservation or conservation of habitat, leaving your property and the land around it in worse shape than it was before. My story follows:

First, they butchered the trees, and cut more than needed, cutting down sawgrass that I had planted in my backyard that never would have grown tall enough to threaten the power lines.

Second, they then left all of the cut sawgrass and many of the branches in my backyard, only removing the largest branches.

Third, they drove over my PVC clean out pipe with their lift bucket machine. The pipe should have been easy to see as the white top of it sticks out of the ground a half inch or so. You could hear them swear when they heard it crack. But, when shown broken pieces from the pipe and asked what happened, the on-duty supervisor (that's what he said he was), who couldn't look me directly in the eye, not only denied that they broke the pipe but denied even having driven through that part of the yard. I told him I knew he was lying to me, and he said his supervisor would be by tomorrow (which would be today) to talk to me. I told him I thought he was lying to me again. He and the other remaining worker (another truck had already left) moved towards the truck, picked up their street sign and drove away. I stood in my driveway, yelling at them now, repeating the words "You're a liar" over and over, as if just saying it would help me in some way.

Someone did come by this morning in a Lewis truck. It was about 8AM. One guy got out of the truck. I went out to talk to him. He looked at the ground near the pipe while talking on his phone. He never got off his phone. He didn't (wouldn't) talk to me. He stayed in the yard talking on his phone for 3 minutes; then he got in the truck and it drove away.

I doubt if there will be any accountability ascribed to Lewis in this matter, or to Duke Energy, for who they were subcontracted to do the work. I will have to clean up the yard myself, and repair the pipe. No one else is going to do it.
