Scott Rocush Review of Alinea Group
This was a 2nd dinner at Alinea. Our first dinner...
This was a 2nd dinner at Alinea. Our first dinner was about 10 years ago for a 40th birthday celebration. The restaurant has been remoldeled and looks artfully elegant. The food here is spectacular in its taste, presentation, and imagination. But service here is different than our first experience. The majority of the servers appear to be in their twenties. While they are proficient and eager in the presentation of the dishes they do not possess the polish of years of experience which was in abundance at our first dinner. Considering a dinner and wine pairing here can cost 500.00 or more per person plus 20% gratiuity the servers experience should be substantial. The only miscue I observed was a course which required the entire salon to walk downstairs to the kitchen for a presentation of an antique drink mixer which was used for a drink and dessert course. Our table was ready for the dessert course but there was two or three tables which were at least one or two courses behind. I don't think serving a dessert course to someone in the middle of their meal is a good idea. I would definitely go back in the future for the food and presentation alone.
