I've been searching for months now for the right deal on the right used Chevy Volt to come along. I really figured I would end up buying one from a private party who wanted to sell theirs instead of trading it in, when they were ready for an upgrade to a new car. Turns out that Volts are very popular, and owners don't give them up that easily. Hard to find in AZ.
I noticed that Courtesy Chevrolet in Phoenix seemed to regularly have a few used Volts on hand, so I had a closer look at their inventory online. Several prospects interested me, so I called to inquire, thinking to myself "there's no way I'm going to get a reasonable deal from a dealership". Wrong.
I really hesitated calling, thinking I'd be hounded to death from them, after deciding I didn't want to go with them, mostly due to price tag.
Now here's what actually happened: I placed a call to Courtesy Chevrolet, and asked for online sales help. I got a young man named Ivan Torres. I told him what I had to spend, and what I was interested in, and asked what he could do. He asked to call me back, in order to find the bottom line on price out the door, and to insure that the car I was interested in was actually on the lot. Several minutes later, he called me back with his results; car was there, but as I expected, the price was over what I was willing to spend. But not by that much, and as it turned out, it included their taking care of the title and registration fees, which, had I purchased the car through a private party, I would have had to take care of myself anyway.
I still figured I was looking at spending a bit more if I bought this vehicle through Courtesy, than if I'd found one through a private party, but decided to take the 2 hour trip from Prescott to Phoenix, and have a closer look.
What I discovered when I got there was Mr. Torres waiting and ready for me, as promised, and a beautiful 2012 Chevy Volt that basically looked BRAND NEW. It was very well taken care of by the original owner. What a beauty! It met my expectations and more. Now I began to think, "OK, I wonder what will be added on to the price we discussed now that I'm here?". That worry was quickly dispelled when Ivan showed me the paperwork that was already prepared. Price total was as promised; no additional added costs. It was then that I was shown what I would be receiving along with the sale that I would have never gotten from a private sale: a GM Certified Preowned Vehicle warrantee, that added an additional year to the bumper to bumper coverage that came with the car originally, as well as the assurance that the car had been completely gone through by their service department. I thought to myself, now that's gotta be worth something.
So I decided to buy the car. But I had one request; could Ivan have someone at Courtesy pick me up from the airport shuttle the next day, so that I could drive my new car home? After all, I had driven down from Prescott, nearly 2 hours away, and now had 2 cars to get back home with. Ivan said he'd see what he could do, and proceeded to finalize the paperwork for the sale. It was getting late in the day by then. Everything had gone fairly smoothly, and I was sitting there realizing that our search for our next car was over. When Ivan came back, he said "how about we follow you up to Prescott, and save you the trip back to Phoenix?"!!! It was 110 degrees there that day, and so now I could see that I would not have to make the return trip! Now, how's that for service? It took 2 of them, Ivan and a fellow employee, with 2 cars (my new Volt, and another vehicle for them to return to Phoenix in) to deliver our new Volt to us. I was speechless. Talk about something unexpected coming out of a day at a car dealership...

Thanks Ivan Torres and Courtesy Chevrolet. You have impressed this customer greatly. Maybe next time around I'll have a different approach to buying a used, OR NEW, car!
