I've been shopping for my eye care needs (glasses, mostly) with Happy Valley Optical for nearly 20 years. Scott is, as many reviewers have noted, very good at helping me find a great frame as my budget and lifestyle have changed. When I was a grad student with a toddler, he helped me find a similar looking pair with a little less delicacy and a price more in line with my grad assistant budget. That way, when my daughter swiped them off my face for the seventh time in a day, they were less likely to break. But he's not pushy; I can browse without feeling like he's hovering and if I don't like his suggestion he finds something else.

He and his staff are friendly, personable, and kind, and his service is out. STANDING. [sic] I think they grind the lenses on-site, and Scott has *always* backed up every frame he's sold me. One acrylic frame I got years ago broke 3 times in the 2 years I wore them and he simply replaced the frame every time without complaint, question, or charge. (NB: Scott subsequently stopped carrying that brand; every other pair of glasses I've bought has lasted without any but the occasional loose screw.) And when I fall asleep wearing my glasses and bend the temples enough so the frame starts slipping, I only need drop in to the shop and within a few minutes he's refit them to my face (and given the lenses a thorough cleaning).

And I haven't even mentioned Dr. Dutt yet! She provides excellent and complete optometry services at the same location. She's everything mentioned above (friendly, personable, kind) and even though I'm diabetic and thus really need someone to keep a good eye on mine (pardon the terrible pun), I know I can trust her to find those tiny changes that might signal retinopathy.

Finally, if supporting local businesses is something you like to do, know that Dr. Dutt and Scott are very active in the community and committed to making State College an even better place to live and work.
