Over the past months I had the displeasure to get to know Gijtenbeek B.V.. Here is an account of what happened.

I ordered name plates for my door and post box from the company. After a short email exchange, everything appeared to be going smoothly. That was until I received 4 name plates, although I only needed 2 and a bill of 210 Euros. This included 17 euros delivery charges, which is rather odd given that the distance between the company and my house is approximately 5 kilometers...

Well, I thought there must have been a mistake, cause 210 Euros for name plates seemed quite outrageous. So, I called them up and asked whether there has been a mistake. For once, Gijtenbeek delivered 2 name plates too many and charged me a small fortune for their services.

After some initial conversations I ended up with one of their employees, who might just be the most unpleasant person, who has ever worked in customer services. I was lectured that the name plates were hand-made and that justifies the price. For the reason why I was sent 2 name plates too many, he had a less reasonable answer: "We had these specifications in our files, and you cannot expect us to check beforehand if the information is outdated".

At this point, I got slightly annoyed and tried to explain that for 210 euros, I expect at least a phone call to make sure that the dimensions on record are the correct ones. Funny enough, this remark somehow triggered the man, which started to lecture me on their hourly rates and that this is somehow my fault.

Remaining unwilling to pay a rather unreasonable price for items I did not want, we continued our discussion a little bit. I tried to be professional, which was difficult given the circumstances, while the man on the phone made no such effort. In the end, we negotiated that I wouldn't pay the plates I didn't need and I would receive an updated bill. I returned the name plates to their office free of charge, but have been waiting for about 3 weeks for my updated invoice.

I guess it goes without saying that I would not recommend this company to anyone, not even my fiercest enemies. Arrogant and incompetent, my least favorite combination, when it comes to businesses.
