I am very surprised to read positive reviews for Mulates in New Orleans. This was the worst dining experience I have ever encountered in my life.

The waitress did not have proper training. We had to remind her several times for our drinks, she took my order and did not take the other parties orders. She said she would be right back but it was several minutes before she returned. When she did she failed to take everyone else s order. We still at this time did not have our drinks. The restaurant was not overly crowded, there was no reason to receive poor service. We asked about the grilled alligator and she told us it was dusted with flour then grilled. Gross! It took a long time to receive our food. I agree the food is good but it s not a 5 star restaurant and over priced.

My friend ordered a coconut mojito and there wasn t any flavor of coconut, just packed with mint leaves. The waitress disappeared so her husband went to the bar in which he was told to leave the bar and tell the waitress! Well......if I haven t said it already she disappeared every chance she could get.

When asked to speak to the manager he was rude, unattentive and very unprofessional, mean spirited, and made inappropriate gestures each time he passed our table.

We asked to split our checks they charged a 20% gratuity for each of us. When we asked the waitress about it she told us that they do that on parties of 5, but we were a party of 4. I told the manager that he was literally conning people out of money and he told me YES!

Literally the worst dining experience in my entire life. I could elaborate more but if you are thinking on trying this restaurant, you should think about the other choices in New Orleans! Restaurants with class and sophistication. If you are going to pay higher prices then do it having a fine experience. The manager at Mulates isn t concerned about giving you that. He s only concerned about ripping you off!

So the positive reviews have nothing to do with service it s the cook and the food. Positive reviews went straight to this managers head. If he thinks that he can continue to treat people the way he treated us today- he will lose business.

Get your stuff together Mulates, I can t believe what happened at your establishment today! Horrible!
